BOF opposes crab proposal backed by ADFG and Southeast Alaska industry groups

The proposal would have created an equal harvest for permits in Southeast Alaska when the state’s preseason estimates were low. Then it would give permit holders equal amounts of crab to catch. If the harvest level was above 200,000 pounds, management would return to a competitive fishery. The proposal would have expired in three years unless renewed by the board.

Petersburg Medical Center CEO Phil Hofstetter says the appropriation will help pay for the initial phase of “site selection, the environmental study, getting the full and complete planning and design”.

Petersburg School District to start optional masking March 21

Petersburg School Board approved moving to optional masking after students and staff return from Spring Break, March 21. They made the decision at their regular meeting Tuesday night. They also voted to make themselves the decision maker for any future masking at the schools.
