Petersburg school board seat to be filled after nearly 2-month vacancy

Marc Taylor will be sworn into the Petersburg school board next month, filling a seat that has been vacant for nearly two months.

Tribal members will decide who will serve as the Petersburg Indian Association’s council president and who will fill three seats on the tribal council when the tribal government holds its election on Jan. 5.

Tidal Network plans to build three communications towers in Petersburg, one is currently under construction

The Central Council of the Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska wants to expand internet services in Southeast Alaska. In Petersburg, they plan to do that by building three communications towers, and a 150-foot tower on Mill Road is already being built. Some local community members have expressed surprise and concern about the construction.

Mitkof Mummers to present fairytale double feature this weekend

Petersburg’s community theater troupe, the Mitkof Mummers, will be presenting two short comedies this weekend: “The Worst Fairytale Ever,” and “A Mixed Up Fairytale.”

Petersburg High School wrestlers work on confidence during second tournament of the season

Petersburg’s high school wrestling team competed in their second wrestling tournament of the season in Juneau on Nov. 7-8. By this time last year, the team had competed in more tournaments. Head coach James Valentine said less time on the mat meant some wrestlers weren’t as sure of themselves in Juneau.
