Commercial fishing film festival celebrates third year

There’s a big mix of commercial fishing footage in Alaska and elsewhere, from the historical to the hysterical online this week for the Third Annual Commercial Fishing Film Festival.
The collection of fishing movies from around the globe is being broadcast online this week through January 18. Viewers can vote for their favorites and upload their own video for next year. It’s the creation of Juneau fisherman and writer David Clark, who has a commercial fishing website. Joe Viechnicki spoke with Clark about the latest installment.

The Alaska Supreme Court may have a decision in the next month or two on the boundaries of the Petersburg borough.
The size of the new municipality has been up in the air since it was approved by area residents in December of 2012. That’s because the city and borough Juneau sought to annex some of the same land on the northern end of the proposed Petersburg borough. A superior court ruled in Petersburg’s favor last year and Juneau appealed that ruling to the state’s highest court. more
Petersburg High School volleyball has earned a berth in the state tournament with a first place finish at the Region Five 2A tournament in Skagway last weekend. The Vikings beat Metlakatla once and Craig twice to secure the region title. Joe Viechnicki spoke with coach Jaime Cabral about the tournament and his team. more
