PETERSBURG, ALASKA High fuel prices are translating into more expensive rides on Southeast Alaska’s two independently-run ferries. An Inter-Island Ferry Authority fuel surcharge has added as much as 40 percent to the price of passenger and vehicle fares this year. It’s not a new charge, but it has hit new heights in 2008, and ferry managers say it is impacting ridership.
