PETERSBURG-AK As Alaskans prepare to vote on a ballot measure aimed squarely against the proposed pebble mine in Bristol Bay, a documentary about the issue has been showing across the state.
“Red Gold” will be shown in Petersburg tonight. The small production company Felt Soul Media made the film in partnership with the Alaska chapter of trout unlimited, a fishery conservation group.
The film won the director and audience choice awards at the Telluride Mountain Film Festival. The film focuses on the concerns of fishermen in Bristol bay, as well as developers that want to build one of the largest open-pit copper and gold mines in north America.
While visiting Juneau this week for a showing of his film, Felt Soul co-founder Travis Rummel spoke with KFSK’s matt Lichtenstein by cell-phone:
