PETERSBURG-AK Expectant mothers will no longer have the option of giving birth at Petersburg medical center next year. The hospital board this month reluctantly voted to stop offering routine delivery services. Medical staff recommended the change because of the lack of surgical back-up, the difficulty of recruiting doctors with obstetrical experience, and the declining number of local deliveries. Overall, hospital staff and administrators saw it as a safety issue.
