PETERSBURG-AK A Petersburg couple is helping to preserve historic techniques of paper-arts and print-making. In a basement studio, retired Petersburg librarian Joyce Schultz creates unique, hand-bound books and designs with paper. Retired printing engineer and consultant Peter Schultz puts ink to paper by hand-setting, individual metal letters and carved or etched designs and running them through a press. The western letterpress process was invented by Johanes Gutenberg, a 15th century German who was famous for printing the first bible with movable type. The couple plan to teach classes and share their hobby with others. They’ll hold an open house this Saturday (11/29) from 10 to 2 at their studio at 830 Mitkof Highway.
