PETERSBURG-AK Petersburg has chosen a contractor to repair the problematic Cabin Creek water pipeline and the work should soon be moving ahead despite another potential setback that cropped up this week.
State officials say they want more detail on the project plans before they’ll give the green light for work on the dam itself, which is the second phase of the project. City officials say they can still move ahead with the first phase as planned. That involves the repair and upgrade of the existing pipeline. In a special meeting this week, the City Council agreed to award the construction bid, so phase one can be finished in time to provide water from Cabin Creek this summer. However, the councilors also voiced frustration and disappointment with the work of the city’s engineering consultants.
