PETERSBURG, AK Petersburg’s domestic violence advocacy group is considering a name change, although the local non-profit will likely keep the same acronym. WAVE, or Women’s Aid in Violent Emergencies, offers support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The group had a busy 2010 with several events during domestic violence awareness month last October and has several programs underway this year. Joe Viechnicki spoke with rural victims services coordinator Sara Wagstaff and WAVE board member Tara Alcock about the latest news from the Petersburg group.
