PETERSBURG, ALASKA
Hahn says he will stay on the job through July 31st. He will also be available for limited work after then.

That prompted council member Rick Braun to propose an alternative approach.

"If we didn’t accept his resignation, what we could do is renegotiate a different kind of job he could do for us."

Hahn announced his plans Tuesday. He says he needs to care for aging parents in Colorado and complete a construction project in his former home of Cordova.

Council members discussed several options. Mayor Al Dwyer said he preferred a contract arrangement if Hahn continued to work for the city.

"He’s got a computer and he knows how to use it. He’s got emails and phones. I think the best thing for us would be to work as a consultant for us. It would make it simpler."

Members voted 6 to 1 to accept the resignation, with Braun in opposition. The vote to advertise job was unanimous.
