PETERSBURG-AK The Petersburg School District’s new garden project is ready for planting. The collaborative project between the Forest Service and the district is aimed at teaching students about horticulture while growing organic vegetables that might supplement the school food service program. There are now a dozen yellow cedar planters in a corner of the empty lot behind the elementary school. Matt Lichtenstein recently visited with middle school gardening club members while they mixed soil in the new garden beds.
