PETERSBURG-AK
Christine J. Ware had her arraignment in court Monday morning in Petersburg. Ware’s Attorney David Mallet entered the not guilty plea on her behalf and requested a jury trial.

A state grand jury in Juneau indicted Ware on the charges earlier this month. The charges include one count of second degree theft, six counts of falsifying business records and two counts of second degree forgery.

Petersburg police allege that Ware stole just under seven thousand dollars from the non-profit day care center while she served as director last year. Ware, who is 36, has no prior criminal record. She worked for the Children’s Center for about a year and a half. The Children’s Center Board fired her in February and contacted Police with the allegations. A subsequent police investigation lead the state to pursue the criminal charges.
During Monday’s arraignment, Superior Court Judge Trevor Stephens allowed Ware to remain free on her own recognizance and set a trial date for August 23rd. There will be an omnibus hearing, which is basically a scheduling conference for the case, on June 6th.
