Petersburg’s fire department is now responding to emergencies from its brand new facility. Volunteers started the long-anticipated move last week. Contractors are putting the finishing touches on the new state-funded facility. It s well over twice the size of the department’s former home in the half-century old municipal building on Main Street. Thursday night, more than 40 volunteers packed-up essential gear and drove the department’s vehicles to the new Fire Station One on Haugen Drive. They also chose lockers and reflected on what the change means for the department and the community. Matt Lichtenstein produced this audio snapshot
