The draft environmental study for an electrical intertie between Petersburg and Kake is not expected to be done at least until the fall while a separate study for a potential road is more than a year away from being ready for release. That’s according to federal officials who gave an update on the projects last week during a teleconferenced meeting with residents and community leaders from Petersburg, Kupreanof and Kake. The route long-favored by the State of Alaska is controversial so the Petersburg Borough set up the informal discussion to see if the three communities could come up with some consensus on the projects. Matt Lichtenstein reports.
