The Tongass Advisory Committee has moved its next meeting place from Petersburg to Juneau. The meeting set for February 17-19 was changed to Juneau to allow for more meeting time and participation by a full quorum of TAC members.
The committee’s designated federal official, Jay Anderson, says the change ensures the greatest amount of member attendance right now. He says the committee’s interest in meeting in the communities of Southeast has not changed.
TAC members advise and give recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture through the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service.
The committee is being asked to make recommendations on forest management on the Tongass with emphasis on young-growth management. The Tongass includes 17 million acres of old and new growth temperate rainforest.
The Juneau meeting will be held at the Extended Stay America Hotel.
