Two Petersburg High School swimmers have qualified to compete at State. The regional meet was held in Sitka last weekend where teams from all over Southeast competed. Ben Higgins and Izabelle Ith each qualified in two events. Ith finished third place in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events and Higgins took 2nd in the 500 and fifth place in the 200 yard freestyle events.
Swim Coach Andy Carlisle says Higgins’ fifth place was still fast enough for State this year.
The Petersburg team finished fifth place at Regions.
The state tournament is at Bartlett Regional High School in Anchorage Friday and Saturday. The swimmers and their coach will fly out of Petersburg Wednesday for the event.
