Petersburg High School’s wrestling team wound up in 22nd place at the small schools state tournament in Anchorage over the weekend. Homer was the top team in the state, followed by Bethel in second place, and Kotzebue in third. Sitka was the top school from Southeast, coming in 7th. Wrangell was 10th and Craig took 12th place.

The Vikings took six wrestlers and scored 27 points. Buddy Stelmach was the top finisher for Petersburg, coming in fifth place at 120 pounds. Joe Viechnicki spoke with assistant coach Rob Schwartz about the tournament.

Kirk Evens was the team’s only senior this year.
