Petersburg High School swim teams took fifth place in a meet in Ketchikan last weekend behind larger schools from Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka. There were several top individual finishes for Petersburg.

For the boys, Rylan Wallace took first place in the 50 yard freestyle event on Saturday. He took second place in the 100 yard butterfly event the same day. On Friday, he took second place in the 100 yard freestyle event.

Peter Kowalski took second place in the 50 yard freestyle on Saturday. He also took first place in the 100 yard backstroke the same day. He took second place in the 200 yard freestyle on Friday as well as third place in the 500 yard freestyle event.

The Petersburg boys relay team took third place in the 200 yard freestyle relay event on Friday. That included Rylan Wallace, Sean Spigelmyre, Caleb Pfundt, and Peter Kowalski.

On the girls’ side, Allie Morgan, took first place in the 200 yard freestyle event on Friday. She took third place in the 100 yard freestyle the same day.

Alyssa Guthrie took second in the 500 yard freestyle event Friday. She took second place in the 100 yard breaststroke on Saturday and third place in the 200 yard individual medley event.
Maddy Whitethorn took second place in the 50 yard freestyle event Saturday.

Maria Pfundt took second place in the 100 yard butterfly event Saturday.

The girls relay team took first place in the 200 yard medley on Friday. That included Allie Morgan, Alyssa Guthrie, Maria Pfundt, and Maddy Whitethorn. The same girls placed second in the 400 yard freestyle relay on Saturday. The girls relay team in the 200 yard freestyle took third place on Saturday. That included Allie Morgan, Alyssa Guthrie, Brynn Lister, and Maddy Whitethorn.

Petersburg High School swim coach, Andy Carlisle, spoke with KFSK’s Angela Denning about the Ketchikan meet and says his small team of 13 swimmers did really well.

The Southeast Regional swim meet is Oct. 26-27 in Petersburg.
