Fire and emergency medical volunteers responded to a single car accident on Mitkof Highway around 8:30 Wednesday night, October 24th. There was one person in the late model Toyota Prius hybrid that hit the guard rail south of the Twin Creek RV Park.

Dave Berg is spokesman for the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department. “When we got the scene at about 7.5 mile, we found a single vehicle that was pointed in the direction northbound back towards town,” Berg said. “And upon investigation we found that the occupant had been traveling southbound on the highway past the Twin Creek RV park and had failed to navigate the corner going up the hill and went into the guard rail, had spin around a couple of times, all four corners of the car were damaged and then the car proceeded back down the hill and the woman pulled off the side of the road right near the entrance to that gravel pit and the RV park.”

Berg says it’s fortunate that the section of road has those guardrails and kept the car from going off the highway. The driver was transported to Petersburg Medical Center for minor injuries. Firefighters were able to disconnect the battery and fuses in the hybrid car to make it safe for towing after the accident.
