Police and volunteers responded to a truck that went off the road about three miles south of Petersburg Monday morning.

The call came in around 6:10 a.m. on Mitkof Highway near the Scow Bay Loop road.

Petersburg volunteer fire department spokesman David Berg said the incident involved a late model pickup truck with just one person inside.

“We got on scene and we found that the police had assisted the victim out of the vehicle and up to the side of the road,” Berg said. “The vehicle went off the road down into a creek area about 20 feet lower than the surface of the road. We assisted the patient onto a backboard because of the mechanism of injury and then transported him to Petersburg Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.”

Berg thinks the vehicle was northbound on Mitkof Highway when it slowed down and turned around, heading southbound before going off the road.
