Petersburg celebrates Independence Day this weekend with the bulk of events on July 3rd and 4th, Saturday and Sunday. The weekend kicks off with a barbecue at the community center pool and gym from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 2.

Saturday, July 3rd starts off with the annual running race at 9 a.m. Most of the activities later that day are organized by the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, starting around 1 p.m. with a barbecue chicken wing eating contest.

Vendors and food booths will be open Saturday and Sunday on main street.

The fireworks display is July 3rd at 11 p.m. The parade is Sunday, July 4 at 11 a.m. The theme this year is “Rewind America.” There’s also a non-denominational church service on main street at 9 a.m. Sunday morning. And it’s capped off by middle harbor games on Sunday starting at 4:30 p.m.
