A Canadian folk duo is performing in Petersburg Tuesday night. The Small Glories are JD Edwards and Cara Luft.

In 2020, The Small Glories were named International Folk Awards Artist of the Year and won three Canadian Folk Music Awards for Contemporary Album of the Year, Ensemble of the Year, and Vocal Group of the year.

This song, Johnson Slide, is from the band’s 2019 album Assiniboine & The Red.

JD Edwards plays the guitar and harmonica and Cara Luft plays the banjo. Luft is a former member of the famous folk band, Wailin’ Jennys. The Small Glories have been playing music together for about six years. Both Luft and Edwards write the songs.

This song, Long Long Moon, is about loss, love, and waiting. It’s inspired by the idea of a sea-faring community on Prince Edward Island.

Assiniboine & The Red is the band’s fourth album. JD Edwards says the name came from two rivers in Canada.

The Small Glories will be performing in Petersburg Tuesday night at the Wright Auditorium. The show starts at 7 p.m. and the doors open at 6:30. It’s being presented by the Petersburg Arts Council and is sponsored by the Petersburg Rotary Club.

Tickets are on sale in advance at Firelight Gallery and Framing. You can also buy them at the door. General admission is $20. It’s $15 for students and seniors. You can hear the band’s latest album on their website.
