Petersburg’s hospital board will meet tonight, Jan. 30, for the first time since November. And while there’s no new or unfinished business on the agenda, board members will review department reports and get an update on the new hospital facilities.
According to Petersburg Medical Center CEO Phil Hofstetter’s written report, contractors are on track and on-budget for building the new Wellness, Education & Resource Center (WERC) facility. That’s one of two buildings planned for PMC’s new hospital site. It will house the hospital’s community resources, telehealth offices, and MRI system.
Contractors have been painting and installing walls and electrical paneling in the WERC Building. Work on the exterior is expected to conclude by early June, but is on pause for the winter. Public tours at the new site are currently offered monthly.
The other building that will house the main hospital is partly designed but work is on hold until there is enough funding.
There’s also a new community needs survey from local healthcare providers. The anonymous survey has about two dozen questions regarding quality of life and areas of concern for Petersburg’s community. In addition to inquiries on healthcare access, the survey includes topics like food security, housing, and relationships in the Petersburg Borough. Submitted responses help highlight priorities for local services and programs.
The community needs survey is offered every few years and the overall results are available to the public. Results for the 2025 survey, including an action plan for the identified priorities, are expected to be published in May.
At the end of the meeting, the hospital board will enter into an executive session —closed to the public— to discuss financial and legal matters and staff appointments.
Petersburg’s hospital board will meet tonight at 5:30 in the assembly chambers. KFSK will broadcast the meeting live.
KFSK will host PMC Live, a conversation with medical center officials, at 12:30 p.m. today, just after Midday Magazine.
