Both the Petersburg Vikings and the Haines Glacier Bears basketball teams were both undefeated coming into their games last week. Although Haines put up a fight, the Vikings won both games on Jan. 29 and 30, scoring 57–38 on Thursday and 59–46 on Friday.

KFSK’s Taylor Heckart spoke with Vikings basketball head coach Rick Brock, who said that winning both fast-paced games was a battle on Petersburg’s home court.

The Vikings remain undefeated, but there are still six games to go before the season ends. The team’s standing after those games will determine their competition for the regional tournament in March.

The Vikings will face off against Anchorage’s Lumen Christi High School on Thursday, Feb. 5 and Friday, Feb. 6 in the Petersburg High School gym. The boys games begin Thursday night at 6:45 and Friday night at 7:00.

Brock said Lumen Christi has “been doing pretty well” this year, and playing a team from outside the region gives the Vikings an opportunity to practice adapting to unexpected situations on the court.

KFSK will broadcast the home games live.
