In the Spring of 2025, KFSK Community Radio was awarded a grant for Emergency Alert Equipment Replacement by Petersburg Community Foundation. This grant mainly involved the purchase and installation of a new DASDEC 3 EAS Decoder. This new unit replaces KFSK’s DASDEC 2 unit, which has been installed at the station since 2011, and has over time become obsolete. Installation of the new DASDEC 3 unit was completed in February 2026.

The new Decoder unit has more inputs, allowing us to monitor alert channels that we have been unable to monitor consistently in the past, and has capacity to add monitoring of additional channels in the future. KFSK is now setup to monitor, receive, and forward alerts from EMNET (Emergency Management Network), Alaska Public Media, National Weather Service (local weather radio), ARCS (Alaska Rural Communications System), PRSS SQUAWK (Public Radio Satellite System), and IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert & Warning System).

Our thanks to the Petersburg Community Foundation for awarding KFSK this vital grant to not only maintain, but improve our emergency alert capabilities for the benefit of all the listeners in our broadcast area. Thanks also to the Alaska Community Foundation for their management of the grant reporting process and distribution of the grant funds.

We are grateful for the enthusiastic support of both PCF & ACF in our mission of public service.
