Nine people have applied to run for public office in Petersburg’s municipal election. 23 positions will be on the ballot this October.
There are three open Petersburg Borough Assembly spots this year: the seats for Scott Newman, Jeigh Stanton Gregor, and Rob Schwartz. As of noon Aug. 11, Sarah Fine-Walsh and Tom Kowalske had filed to run. Both candidates currently serve on the planning commission.
There are five open seats on the planning commission. So far, only incumbent Chris Fry has reapplied for a seat.
Hospital board chair Jerod Cook is running for reelection, Andrew Kittams is running for harbor board, Marilyn Menish-Meucci is running for library board and Thomas Fine-Walsh is running for Parks and Rec Board. Mark Tuccillo and John Lichtenberger are running for Public Safety Advisory Board.
There’s still time for residents to run for office – there’s roughly two weeks until the deadline. The required paperwork can be submitted to the Borough until 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 25.
Petersburg’s election is October 6.
