Physicians call on Petersburg to mask up

Local medical staff called on the community this week to wear face coverings in public to slow the spread of COVID-19. Petersburg emergency officials issued a recommendation for masks and other health measures but are not pursuing a mandate.

Petersburg assembly OKs park improvements despite concerns, questions

Petersburg’s borough assembly gave the green light Monday to site preparation work for a new playground at Sandy Beach Park. The borough’s newly re-started advisory board, some neighbors and assembly members wanted to pause to get a better idea of the plans for removing trees and placing crushed rock at the borough owned park.

GOP challenger has early lead in central Southeast house race

Republican challenger Kenny Karl Skaflestad of Hoonah has the early lead over Democratic incumbent Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins of Sitka. The winner of that race will represent House district 35, including Sitka, Petersburg, most of Prince of Wales Island and other small communities in Southeast Alaska.
