Groups sue to end Tongass roadless exemption

Environmental and tourism groups along with the Organized Village of Kake are suing to extend nationwide roadless area protection to Southeast Alaska’s Tongass National Forest. A lawsuit filed Tuesday in the U.S. district court in Juneau argues that the 2003 exemption of the Tongass was illegal.

A proposed haul-out and boat yard at scow bay could be managed by the City of Petersburg with some on-site help from the private sector.
