Wilson makes another stop in Petersburg – Extended interview

State Representative Peggy Wilson continued her re-election campaign in Petersburg last weekend. The Wrangell Republican is seeking a fifth term in the state house, representing Petersburg, Wrangell, Sitka and several smaller, nearby towns. Wilson is a nurse by profession and is chair of the house education and social services or “HESS” committee.
Wilson is also on the 12-member Legislative Council which voted unanimously to release the so-called “Troopergate” investigation report. KFSK’s Matt Lichtenstein spoke with Wilson about that report and several other Alaska issues in this extended interview.

Herwald makes another stop in Petersburg – Extended interview

Sitka democrat Lily Herwald is on the campaign trail this month in her bid to unseat wrangell republican Peggy Wilson for the District Two seat in the Alaska House, representing Petersburg, Wrangell, Sitka, Pelican, Elfin Cove and Port Alexander. The 48-year-old grant writer for Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium spent several days in Petersburg and stopped by KFSK studios to talk about District Two issues with Joe Viechnicki. Boat owners asked about marine service needs

Local boat owners should be seeing a survey in their mail boxes this week on the need for a marine haul out facility in town. The questionaire is part of study being done for the Petersburg Economic Development Council on marine service needs in Petersburg. Joe Viechnicki talked with PEDC coordinator Liz Cabrera about the survey.

Councilors skeptical about Kake road

Petersburg city councilors voiced concern and skepticism this week about the state's proposal for a road to Kake, a town of about 500 people on Kupreanof Island about 40 miles west of Petersburg. The council is firmly in support of an electrical transmission line to bring cheap hydro-electric power to the neighboring community. However, several members worried that adding a road into the mix would delay or even halt progress on the intertie. Also, some council members didn’t want to go against the wishes of the nearby city of Kupreanof, which has opposed the road plan.

Harbor employee objects to council complaints

A Petersburg employee Monday responded to a couple of Peterburg’s city councilors, who had earlier complained that harbor staff did not walk the docks enough. The councilors said they had never intended to criticize a specific employee.
