With the turn of the year, it’s time to reflect on an eventful 2025. Here’s a look back from the KFSK newsroom at some of the stories that shaped the year in Petersburg.

Second man sentenced for $100K scam of Petersburg senior

The second of two men arrested in Petersburg last summer for scamming an elderly resident of over $100,000 will serve a year in jail. The sentencing closes the case, but a third suspect remains at-large.

Petersburg’s high schoolers volunteer for a Day of Giving

Petersburg High School students spent their last day before winter break serving the community as part of the school’s Day of Giving. From handing out food bags and organizing donations for a local nonprofit, to baking and delivering cookie boxes with cards and ornaments to businesses, to babysitting, caroling, visiting elderly folks, shoveling snow, deep cleaning the school, handing out free soup and more — whatever the task, students said they were doing it to give back to the community that supports them.

Petersburg High School wrestling season ends at state championship

Three Petersburg High School wrestlers competed at the state championship in Anchorage last weekend, Dec. 19-20. Head coach James Valentine said they wrestled hard against tough competition. Reflecting on the season, Valentine shared about his vision for the wrestling program moving forward.

Snowy tree takes out power in Petersburg for nearly 2 hours

Petersburg lost power Tuesday night for almost two hours after a tree fell into a major powerline five miles south of town. Petersburg Municipal Power & Light crew cut the tree out, freed the line and restored power for all of town around 9:20.
