Petersburg’s Borough Assembly tonight will consider allowing limited small-scale seafood processing at the town’s Community Cold Storage facility. Also tonight, the Assembly will decide whether to extend the Borough’s contract with Republic Services, which removes the municipality’s garbage from the island.

Petersburg’s Borough Assembly directed staff to start rewriting part of its zoning code so that it can be implemented beyond municipal limits. Officials say it’s a big project that will take several years, but a wide-ranging ordinance about communication towers will roll out as part of the process, and property outside of Petersburg’s town proper will be part of a temporary “holding district.”
