The Petersburg Borough Assembly voted unanimously last week to sell two borough-owned parcels to local developer Dave Ohmer for $61,800. Ohmer plans to build a duplex on each property, which are on Haugen Drive near the hospital WERC building.

There are a few things that make the new canoe special. It’s the first one Petersburg’s local tribe has owned, and the first the community has had in over a century. Several canoes from around the region will launch from Petersburg this summer with a group of people traveling to Juneau for the biennial Celebration festival. A lot of time, planning and paint has been put toward bringing the new killer whale canoe to life.

Petersburg’s Borough Assembly will take an initial vote today on whether to make changes to the Borough’s budget. They will consider several additional issues as well — including land sales for housing, bike path maintenance, and more. The Assembly meets today (April 13) at noon in the Assembly Chambers.
