Republican gubernatorial candidate Click Bishop visited Petersburg last week to attend the community’s annual Little Norway Festival. Bishop is a former Fairbanks state senator, and served as Commissioner of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development from 2007 to 2012.

Petersburg’s Borough Assembly tonight (May 18) will consider property tax rates for the next year, raising the marine passenger fee by $3, electric rate increases, sewer rate increases, raising the single-purchase sales tax cap, adding a new chapter to Petersburg’s zoning code about towers and wireless communication facilities, and the Borough’s next budget. The meeting happens at 6:00 p.m. and KFSK will broadcast it live.

A crowd packed onto the docks on Petersburg’s north harbor near a bright white seiner on May 6. The community was there to celebrate the 80th birthday of the Symphony, which had spent time as a seiner, long liner, crabber, and shrimper.

It’s the first time in a few years that both residents and nonresidents can fish for hatchery king salmon in the slough’s freshwater. Anglers could be interviewed by Fish and Game staff researching there for a survey program this summer.
The City Creek release site near Petersburg is permanently discontinued as of this year. It’s now just part of the larger fishing district, which is closed to retention until mid-July.
