PETERSBURG-AK Petersburg’s Alaska Native Brotherhood and Sisterhood camps are up and running once again, with new leadership and almost 40 members. Through nearly 100 years of history, the organization has played a central role in support of native rights and culture in Alaska. The ANB-ANS membership includes both natives and non-natives. It’s been several years since the group has been active in Petersburg. The re-organized membership recently elected Ross Naunuk III as the local ANB president. MaryAnn Rainey was elected president of ANS in Petersburg. In October, Petersburg will join other ANB-ANS camps from around Alaska at the Grand Camp convention in Ketchikan. Matt Lichtenstein spoke with Naunuk and Rainey about the local organization:
