PETERSBURG-AK The state has rejected Petersburg’s request to expand its electrical service area. The new boundaries would have included Ruth lake in nearby Thomas Bay, where local officials hope to eventually build a new hydro-electric plant. A service extension might have given Petersburg more of an advantage in its competition for a federal permit to pursue the new hydro project. However, state regulators say Petersburg needs to provide more information to justify such an expansion.
