PETERSBURG, AK A Petersburg couple attended last month’s Medal of Honor ceremony in the East Room of the White House. The ceremony honored Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta, the first living service member from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to receive the medal of honor, for rescuing fellow soldiers in a firefight in October 2007 in Northeastern Afghanistan. Giunta is the nephew of Petersburg resident Madonna Judge-Parks. She and her husband R.D. made the trip to the nation’s Capitol and spoke with KFSK’s Joe Viechnicki about the experience.
