The whale observatory called Outlook Park on Sandy Beach Road in Petersburg has some new landscaping this month.

The park lost some tree cover last year during fall storms and the replacement of a nearby sewer pump station. However, this summer borough employees have planted new trees and shrubs and created a walking path. There’s also plans to add a bathroom and picnic tables next year. This year’s landscaping was paid for in part by a community fund raising effort. Joe Viechnicki spoke with groundskeeper Jesse O’Connor and Parks and Recreation director Donnie Hayes about the work.

A second phase of work next year will include an upgrade for the cinderblock building that housed the old pump station, installation of a bathroom along with some picnic tables and barbecue grills.
