The Petersburg boys’ swim team beat out Sitka and Juneau’s Thunder Mountain to win the home meet last weekend. The boys took the top spots in several events. 17-year-old Abel Aulbach won four of them.

Aulbach dominated in the Boys 50 and 100 yard freestyle events. He also took first in the Boys 100 yard breaststroke and helped the team win the 200 yard medley relay. Also swimming in the relay was Ben Higgins, Ian Fleming, and Evan Marsh.

Marsh took first in the Boys 100 yard backstroke. He took second place in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard butterfly. He also helped the boys take second in the 200 yard freestyle relay and the 200 yard medley relay.

Skipper Erickson took second place in the Boys 200 yard individual medley. Ian Fleming took third in that event.

Nels Evens took second place in the Boys 500 yard freestyle.

Aaron Murph took second place in the 100 yard butterfly.

The Petersburg boys also took second place in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Although the boys didn’t win the 50 yard freestyle, they took second, third, and fourth places in that event following Thunder Mountain’s Trevor Jones.

On the girls’ side, Izabelle Ith took first place in the 100 yard freestyle. Ith finished third in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The girls took second place in the 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Overall, the girls team finished third place at the meet.

Petersburg’s swim team will head to Juneau September 19 for a meet there.
