Petersburg High School’s Science Bowl team took first place for their research score at a recent statewide competition in Seward.

Petersburg brought two teams to the National Ocean Sciences Bowl, an older veteran team and a younger team with mostly first-time competitors. The older team took first place for a 15-page research paper on how prepared Petersburg is for a possible tsunami. They also took first place for an oral presentation on the paper. Overall, they finished 7th at the event which included scores from the science trivia competition known as quiz bowl.

There were 19 teams in all.

Petersburg’s younger team took 8th place on the paper and 13th on the presentation.
