Moose hunters have reported killing 50 moose on the mainland and islands around Petersburg, Kake and Wrangell.

The month-long moose season began September 15.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game says 18 bulls have been taken on the Stikine River and 17 have come from Kupreanof Island. Hunters have taken seven on Mitkof Island, three in Thomas Bay on the mainland north of Petersburg, two on Wrangell Island, one in Farragut Bay, one on Zarembo Island, and one on Kuiu Island.

Of the 50 moose taken so far, three have failed to comply with moose antler restrictions.
