The Petersburg School District board will be meeting in the Middle and High School library Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Petersburg School Board is meeting Tuesday night for a regular meeting.

Rick Dormer, Principal of the Middle and High School, will be giving a report to the board on the findings of an accreditation team from a visit in the spring of 2015. The report is a type of quality assurance where the team is checking on standards at the school.

Janine Gibbons is the newest member of the school board. She was voted on to the board in the municipal election last week. She’s replacing Brandi Marohl who decided to run for borough assembly instead. The school board will discuss and schedule a work session for new board member orientation.

The other school board member elected is incumbent Sarah Holmgrain.

At the meeting, Superintendent Erica Kludt-Painter will conduct the election of President of the board. The new president will then conduct the election of the Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer. Board members will also choose their committee assignments.

The board is still looking for community members to serve on a strategic planning committee. They’d like the committee to be made up of school staff, board members, community members and assembly members as well as students. The committee will be meeting on November 16-17 along with a Director from the Association of Alaska School Boards.

Also at tonight’s meeting, board members will be hearing administrative reports from the superintendent, school principals, as well as from the Activities Director.

The school board’s meeting is Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Middle and High School library. KFSK will be broadcasting the meeting. There will also be a student recognition and reception in the High School Commons starting at 6:15 p.m.

Also, tune into Campus Connection, a call-in with school officials. That will be airing at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after the Midday Magazine.
