Petersburg High School’s varsity volleyball team won four matches and lost two on its home court over the weekend, securing the third seed among the region’s 2A teams.
The Vikings beat Skagway, Metlakatla, Klawock and Haines while losing to Craig and Wrangell. The match against the Wolves went to five games late Saturday night. Joe Viechnicki spoke with coach Jaime Cabral about the weekend’s action.

This weekend the volleyball team plays in Wrangell Friday and then at home against Wrangell on Saturday. It’s the last chance to see the team play at home. Matches will be 5:30 and 7 p.m. that night. Appreciation for the team’s five seniors Gillian Wittstock, Martha Johnson, Tiare Simbahon, Trinty Davis and Claire Byrer will be after the 7 p.m. match on Saturday. The following weekend 2A teams play in Metlakatla for the region tournament with the top two teams heading to the state tournament.
