Petersburg High School’s baseball opened the region five tournament in Juneau on a winning note Thursday morning, the second win for the Vikings in less than a week.

Petersburg beat the Thunder Mountain Falcons 4-1 at Adair-Kennedy Field. Thomas Durkin pitched seven innings for the Vikings, striking out eight batters and also scoring twice. Petersburg had three runs in the top of the third inning. Sawyer Bryner had two hits, one walk and two RBI on the game.

The Vikings had been winless for three years, but broke into the win column with Durkin pitching against Thunder Mountain last Friday.

Next up for Petersburg is the top seed, the Ketchikan Kayhi Kings. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 Thursday afternoon. Juneau-Douglas plays Sitka in the other afternoon game.
