This transmission electron microscope image shows SARS-CoV-2—also known as 2019-nCoV, the virus that causes COVID-19—isolated from a patient in the U.S. Virus particles are shown emerging from the surface of cells cultured in the lab. The spikes on the outer edge of the virus particles give coronaviruses their name, crown-like. Image captured and colorized at NIAID’s Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Hamilton, Montana. Ketchikan High School is closed this week because of a cluster of COVID cases. At least five new cases of COVID-19 were identified in people who attended a wrestling tournament as well as prom and an after-party.

Petersburg High School wrestlers competed in the same tournament and track and field athletes competed in Ketchikan last weekend as well. Petersburg High School also hosted Ketchikan baseball at home last Thursday and Friday.

Superintendent Erica Kludt-Painter told KFSK’s Angela Denning that the school district is keeping an eye on Ketchikan’s situation and monitoring it closely.

Also, KRBD radio reported that this coming weekend’s Native Youth Olympics Traditional Games in Ketchikan have been postponed.
