Petersburg Medical Center is reporting the first COVID-19 cases in the community in weeks.

The medical center reported the positive test results for two residents of Petersburg on Tuesday, July 6th. The announcement follows a busy Independence Day weekend with many public events. The medical center advises people to monitor for COVID symptoms after taking part in large gatherings.

Public Health has been notified and will conduct an investigation of close contacts.

The number to call for information about symptoms, testing or vaccination is 772-5788.

The borough’s emergency operations center disbanded at the end of last month and reporting of these new cases comes from the hospital.
