The Petersburg Medical Center’s online dashboard showed one new COVID-19 case in the community Monday, August 2nd.

It’s the first new case in Petersburg since the middle of last month. The dashboard tallied four cases still active here, including the one newly announced and three that were reported in July.

In addition, the medical center reported Friday that a total of four cases that were already announced in Petersburg have been identified as the delta variant. Health officials call that a variant of concern, because it’s turning out to be more easily spread and can be more dangerous for people who become ill.

The hospital continues its call for people to be tested, and tested early, if they feel symptoms that could be COVID-19. That goes for vaccinated and unvaccinated people who feel fever, cough or other difficulty breathing. The COVID information line at the hospital is 772-5788.
