Petersburg voters overwhelmingly favored president-elect Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris in this year’s general election. As of 11 p.m. on November 6, election officials had counted 843 votes for the Petersburg-Kupreanof Precinct. Of those votes, 498 were for Trump, and 277 were for Harris.
In the race for Alaska’s lone seat in the U.S. House, Republican candidate Nick Begich III has a narrow lead over incumbent Democrat Mary Peltola. Begich received 401 votes from Petersburg and Peltola received 344.
Most Petersburg voters supported Ballot Measure 1, which would increase Alaska’s minimum wage and require that employers pay employees about a week’s worth of sick leave per year. The measure received 459 “yes” votes and 331 “no” votes.
The precinct also supported Ballot Measure 2, which would repeal open primaries and ranked-choice voting. 440 residents voted “yes” on the measure, and 360 voted “no.”
These are the unofficial election results from the Petersburg-Kupreanof Precinct. Valid absentee ballots can be counted if received 15 days after Election Day. The official election results are expected to be certified by the State Review Board on November 30.
