Petersburg’s recently elected Borough Assembly members will swear into office at tonight’s assembly meeting. Voters elected Donna Marsh, and reelected Jeigh Stanton Gregor and Scott Newman, in the municipal election earlier this month.

Two public hearings are on tonight’s agenda. One is about adjusting the Borough budget for wage increases and staffing changes. The other regards an update to Borough code for the new Lands Manager administrative role. That job was created when the borough approved the 2027 budget, and has been filled.

Also tonight, Emergency Services Director Aaron Hankins will give a report on the volunteer fire department’s training facility. The department’s training materials have been housed at Scow Bay, but upcoming site work for a major harbor project now requires their equipment to be removed and relocated. Hankins will present possible solutions and cost estimates.

The Assembly will close the meeting in executive session to discuss Borough computer network vulnerabilities and security responses related to a recent ransomware attack on the Borough’s computer network. Executive sessions are not public.

According to a notice posted by the Borough on Oct. 16, ransomware was deployed by attackers on the Borough’s computer network in mid-July. The Borough’s IT provider was able to stop the attack and investigate what happened, and the Borough informed the state and the FBI.

According to that notice, customer credit card and banking information is not stored on the Borough’s network, and were not accessed during the attack.

The Petersburg Borough Assembly meets tonight at 6:00 p.m. in the Assembly Chambers. KFSK will broadcast that meeting live until the Assembly goes into executive session.
