PHS to start the school year with a few changes

Petersburg High School will start a bit earlier this year and registering students for sports activities will be all online.

U.S. Coast Guard Commandant visits Petersburg

The head of the U.S. Coast Guard, Commandant Admiral Karl Schultz, paid a short visit to Petersburg Friday. Also visiting was the 17th Coast Guard District Commander Rear Admiral Matthew Bell and U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Mike Enzi of Wyoming.

School board meeting to look at next school year

The Petersburg School board is meeting Tuesday at 7 p.,m. in the Middle and High School library. The school board will hear about new personnel hire for the coming school year. There are four new teachers and several new aides.

Clausen Museum exhibit showcases gardens from decades past

An exhibit at the Clausen Museum, “August Harvest” shows that some residents decades ago had figured out how to grow abundant gardens in and around Petersburg.

Petersburg’s John Jensen appointed to the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council

The Chairman for the Alaska Board of Fisheries, John Jensen of Petersburg, has been appointed to the North Pacific Fishery Management Council. The group helps make decisions for managing fish stocks off the coast of Alaska.
