There are no roads linking most of Southeast Alaska. Residents rely on planes and ferries to get from one community to another. But the ferry service has been spotty this year, which has caused challenges for many students traveling to regional events.

Southeast’s Tanner crab fishermen saw a strong and valuable harvest this spring and there is reason to believe the fishery won’t be slowing down in the future.

Petersburg has installed two new sirens to help reach more residents in times of emergencies.

Petersburg’s middle and high schools do not have a kitchen. Food for students gets transferred by car from the elementary school. But that’s about to change. The Petersburg School Board unanimously approved funds to go towards a remodel project during their meeting Tuesday night. As Angela Denning reports, the project also includes upgrading the kitchen at the grade school.

Two Petersburg residents are being charged for allegedly possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute the drug. Police seized drugs in the mail.
